The Invasion Has Begun…Monsters from the Midwest!

About The Lake Monsters

The Lake Monsters is a collaboration between Chicago-based product development specialists Squibbles Ink and designer toy store Rotofugi.

We’re heavily inspired by the Japanese kaiju and “neo kaiju” movements and hope to bring just a smidgen of that awesomeness to the plate, but with our own little spin on the subject…all of the artists involved will be from the great US Midwest. Basically, we love monsters and wanted to make some of our own and who better to do that with than the artists right in your own back yard?

The talented Mr. Chris Ryniak will be doing much of the sculpting for the project. Figures will be rotocast vinyl (made in China for those who care about that sort of thing) and will all be hand painted here in Chicago.

We’re currently working on our first project, LM001 aka Big Muscamoot, also designed by Chris.

Stay tuned for more details.

Who’s Posting?

Kirby Kerr is the co-owner and gallery director of Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery, located in Chicago. He loves all kinds of toys and blames Mark Nagata of Max Toy Company for his re-kindled love of all things monster.

Joe Somers is the owner and head honcho at Squibbles Ink, a Chicago-based product development company. Before he started Squibbles Ink he was the owner of a vintage toy store in Chicago. He’s got more toys than he knows what to do with.
